When we arrived, all was fine, and I took a bottle of wine over to my friend in her kitchen. I causally mentioned that I'd sent her a message to clarify the time for dinner. Then, there is a look exchanged between us that alerts me to my error. "Did you guys have dinner yet?" In that split second before I answer, I have to weigh my embarrassment at my ridiculous mistake and the fact that I know Shawn is starving! I couldn't let Shawn sit there hungry because of my mistake. I had to admit that I'd messed up. Sometimes ADHD can make you feel like such a DORK!

Dinner Blunder
An ADHD problem: your eyes read one thing, but your brain registers something different! Earlier in the week, I received a message from a friend, inviting my hubby and I over "for an evening". The problem is that my brain registered "for dinner". We figured out a night, I asked if I could bring anything, and the plans were set. Only one problem - the plans in our heads were completely different. Fast forward to today...knowing my own tendency to make the occasional mistake (insert sarcasm font), I sent a message to clarify whether we should come over at 7 or if dinner was at 7. Unfortunately, the message wasn't received. Did I go back and reread our previous messages? Lol, of course not! DOH! Since the actual plan was to come over at 7, after dinner, we were about 40 minutes early and we hadn't eaten dinner, SMH! It might have been remotely possible to cover my mistake, if my hubby, Shawn, hadn't wondered 'what we were having' on the drive over because he was starving, UGH!

Finally Officially Diagnosed!
Wow, it's been a very long time since my last blog post! I'd like to give this another shot, if people are interested in reading. I'll try to fill in some details from my missing couple of years, but for today I received some big news...
The psychiatrist is recommending treatment and I see my GP in two weeks to set up a plan for a medication trial. I'm sure it will be a bumpy road getting this figured out, but hopefully in the end it will be worth it.
In the mean time, I'm trying to find information and recommendations about what medications are working best for adults with ADHD and depression together. (or is the depression a result of the untreated ADHD for 39 1/2 years?) Will I treat one without the other? Or are there complimentary medications that will treat ADHD and mild depression together that will finally bring harmony to my life? Hmmm still mulling, as you can see...
If anyone is willing to share their experiences, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

What Box?
People with ADHD can "think outside the box". Really, what box? I think that those of us with ADHD never even knew there was a box! I recently came across a printable poster about reasons to love your ADHD. I thought there were lots of good points on it! It was from the website for ADDitute Magazine. They had a couple of different printable posters that are very light-hearted. They have asked that the posters not be reproduced, but here is the link if you would like to check them out: http://www.additudemag.com/RCLP/sub/2734.html
I think that many people need to realize that ADHD is not an inherently bad thing, there are many, many positives that go along with the diagnosis. The trick is learning to use your strengths to your advantage and coping with your weaknesses...wait a minute doesn't that describe every one's life?
